Grimwych is a text-based roleplay world built around character interaction, exploration and collaborative storytelling. There is no single correct way to play. Create a character, step into the world and see where the story takes you.
Start by creating a character from the Create Character page. You will choose a name, race, sex and a collection of appearance details used to build your character's short description.
You can also add a family name and a character title or banner. Titles may contain safe formatting, links and images, making them useful for decorative character banners as well as simple text titles.
After logging in, your character enters the game world in their current room. Rooms contain descriptions, exits, people and sometimes objects or other interactive elements.
Look around with look or l.
Travel between connected rooms using directions such as:
Short forms such as n, s, e and w may also be available.
You can inspect other characters and objects in the room using look at.
For example: look at Thorne
Character descriptions are generated from their appearance information and may also include their title, current condition and worn equipment.
Grimwych is primarily a roleplay game. Players write their characters' actions, dialogue and reactions, building scenes together in real time.
You do not need to write enormous posts. A short response that gives another player something meaningful to react to is often more useful than several paragraphs that leave no room for interaction.
The Who's Online page shows the characters currently wandering Grimwych. It includes their current area, how long they have been logged in and how long they have been idle.
You can also use the who command while playing.
A character may appear as sleeping or AFK. This usually means the player is temporarily unavailable or not actively watching the game.
Idle time is shown on the Who's Online list to help you judge whether someone is likely to respond immediately.
Character titles can be simple text or decorative HTML banners. Safe formatting, links and images are permitted, while unsafe scripts and executable content are automatically removed.
Large banners can affect how pages look, so keeping them reasonably sized makes the Who's Online list and character pages easier for everyone to browse.
If you are unsure how something works, the Command Reference and FAQ are the best places to start. The Wiki contains information about the world itself.
Grimwych is a shared story rather than a puzzle with a correct solution. Explore strange places, talk to people, create problems, make alliances, start rumours, make terrible decisions and give other characters something interesting to respond to.
